Architectural Design 2 - Arc 257
With this project, we have been given the assignment with designing an addition to the Smith House, originally built in 1965 by architect Richard Meier. The new design has to respect the original architectural work by analyzing and incorporating its existing systems and patterns into the addition. We are also tasked to create a concept that responds to the homeowner's needs, while adding new elements or systems not originally apart of the original house.

Meta Idea: Football
The Smith family recently have asked for an addition to their house, they are big fans of the sport of football and also value spending time together as a family. Their current home they feel lacks a space for the family to gather and watch their sport. With respect to the existing conditions of the house, the Smith family wants a big family room added that takes the form of a football shape.
Additionally, they want an exercise room added so that the family can work out and they also want a master bedroom added with a massive window facing directly towards the waterside part of the property. Lastly they want a patio and deck added to the property as well as everything else.

Preliminary Design
The images below are three of the preliminary designs which were I made by mapping out the necessary masses and circulation path. After concluding which one flowed the most well with the original circulation and which one had the most potential, I decided to go with the third design.
